This class will look at the materials, tools, and techniques of the medieval leatherworker, and how leather was used in period, for everything from shoes to scabbards, spectacles to leather casework. And some info on how to get started on the medieval version of this craft.

SCA Anthropology 101 - Interkingdom feast and event discussion

There is no right or wrong way to organize an event or a feast. Each kingdom has a usual way they do it and it varies a lot from area to area. From lunch taverns to day boards to processions to volunteer-cooked huge feasts of 30+ dishes to catered hotel meals to no meals at all, from vigils to writs, and what the heck is an 'eric’? Come tell me about your feasts and events and I’ll tell you how I've seen several other kingdoms do theirs. Let’s share ideas!

Basics and tips for beginner embroiderers

This class will run through where to start, different styles of working frames and best practice with those, some of the common issues new stitchers encounter and how to resolve or avoid them. It includes learning three fairly simple stitches that are fairly common throughout our Historical context.

A Cooking Fire is not a Bonfire

How many times have I heard, “You want help? Sure, I can manage your cooking fire! I make excellent bonfires! Fire is fire, right?” Wrong. Managing a cooking fire is not as easy as just being able to make a big fire. Learn how to manage a fire for different types of food and cooking techniques - spit roasting, cauldron cooking several ways including with cooking bags, in-period pressure-cooker and slow-cooker techniques in ceramic and metal pots - from an experienced "over the fire" cook. Discussion only. No real fire involved in this class.

How did medieval people fasten their clothes? Laces, buttons, hooks & eyes... This class will look at the evidence for different types of fastenings, how these changed over time, and some practical information on how recreate these fastenings for use on your own garb.
