Armour as Worn Tournament

Do you own a suit of fancy armour and wish it did something other than slowing you down and making you less likely to get gnarly bruises? Are you a completely unbiased marshal in charge of the event who is imposing his whims on a captive populace? Well then you are in luck.

In this tournament the amour and weapons used will change the effectiveness of blows from the standard rules.

The most important rule is that the calibration of the blows should not change. You should not be hitting someone harder because they are wearing more armour, and they shouldn't be requiring you to hit harder before they call it good. Calibration checks with your opponent before the bouts are encouraged.

Armour is divided up into 4 categories and may make it so that it requires more than one good blow to the same target area for it to count, or it may make you immune to certain weapons

  • No armour. This includes fabric and light padding.
  • Light armour. This includes chainmaille and heavy padding (basically padded garments that can stand up on their own)
  • Medium armour. This includes leather armour and steel armour made of small plates that are not otherwise supported (some coats of plates)
  • Heavy armour. This includes armour made of large steel plates, or armour made of small steel plates that have significant overlap or support (most lamellar and some coats of plates)

Blows are divided up into 6 categories

  • Single handed swords
  • Single handed mass weapons (maces, hammers, axes, etc)
  • Single handed thrusts (this includes one handed thrusts with a 2 handed weapon)
  • Two handed bladed weapons (swords and glaives)
  • Two handed mass weapons (maces, hammers, axes, etc)
  • Two handed thrusts
